MONOGRAM Musepack Update

January 18th, 2009 Posted in Free Software

after several months there is finally an update for the Musepack filter pack with the following changes:

  • FIXED - Decoder produced 6dB lower output
  • ADDED - Splitter now supports APE v2.0 tags and IAMMediaContent interface
  • ADDED - Splitter now supports chapters
  • Decoder is now in version
  • Splitter is now in version

The chapter support is implemented using the IAMStreamSelect interface. Many popular players such as Media Player Classic provide a popup menu for this interface automatically so the chapter support should work naturally with them.

The complete source code is located in the Musepack SVN Repository

Sorry, but MPC is a dead format.
Instead, could you please work on FhG MP3S DS decoder?

  3. By Igor Janos on Jan 20, 2009

You’re wrong. The MPC developers are quite active @

    Hi Igor,

Thank you very much for this update.
Just soon after I’ve seen the information about the updated decoder I wanted to ask you if you still plan to implement APEv2 tagging support. And then, the big surprise! Not only APEv2 tagging but also chapters support. I didn’t believe to my eyes, so I prepared a cv8 file with three chapters and - guess - it works!
Would you announce this at Hydrogenaudio? I believe it deserves a new topic, especially the chapters support.

You’re welcome. Sure I might post it at hydrogen sometimes later today.

Active dev, but dead in race.
Read format choice of 2009 @ HA.
    MP3 for lossy.
    FLAC for lossless.

You got any idea why these wont “work” on vista64/server2008, i install them but none of the dshow players i try will play mpc files :(

  12. By Igor Janos on Mar 11, 2009

I’ve developed the set on vista64. Perhaps you’re using 64-bit player and installed 32-bit codecs.

  13. By AshenTech on Mar 11, 2009

nope 32bit players, TCMP(the core media player), VLC(enabled external codecs), Media player classic, i dont use WMP but 32 or 64bit version wont work :/

very strange……my ogg codecs work, im on server 2008 sp2(effectivly vista sp2) just cant get musepack files to play on dshow, its frustrating :(

Hi Igor, I’m trying to write a post and several attempts : they don’t appear. So sorry if they’ll appear all at once. Well here’s the problem : when playing a sv7 stream file, there are very noisy audio glitches when you move play cursor. This only happens with SV7, and when you move the cursor very soon aftyer pressing play. Could it be a buffer underrrun ?

Try downloading the latest binary from the SVN. I’ve been fixing this issue several weeks ago, but did not release the modification because I’ve been waiting for the MPC guys to confirm it’s working fine… and then it got forgotten :D.

Just tested the new binaries on SV7 streams : the noisy glitch is gone indeed :) There are still clicks when you move the play cursor, but they are minor, so I guess very acceptable. However, moving inside SV8 streams is always much smoother. Thanks again ;)

    Hello Igor, I hope you’re enjoying summer !! ;)
I’m getting back to you now, on mpc filters, after testin gthem for a long time (latest svns).
I noticed several times, even with SV8 streams, that when you move the cursor of Windows Media Player, just after play resumes, you get something like block skips. Also I noticed something else (all the time): the counter in WMP does not run smooth on mpc files. I locks-up every 2-3 seconds then catches up quickly. I checked of course that it works all right on other file types and filters.

How peolpes can install this beautiful codecs? What should I do with ax-files? =(

  19. By AshenTech on Jul 23, 2009

Desided I needed to come back, turns out my problem was that the VCP musepack decoder was cock blocking these filters.

Also thought I would point out that VCP is now replacing the filters currently in use with these :D

Could we get a x64 native build of these as well?

VCP has full x64 support and it would be koo to have MCP in 64bit media players :D

OK, Igor, your filters work well on Vista but fail on windows 7.

just figuared you would want to know, Shark007 would be happy to use your filters on all his packs, but the win7 codec pack cant use the current filters so hes gotta use somebody elses filters :/

Thanks again for your hard work :)

I’ve been using basic standards that work out the box for years now - do I really need/want to start messing with software codecs all over again.
I’m to busy enjoying life to waste time.
Your dev pack is years too late.

I’ve just been testing on Win7 (after using some time on XP and Vista). The filters (those from SVN : versions split= decoder= work on Win7, only one file out of hundreds failed to open. But there are still problems with the play cursor and time counter, they are not smooth, sometimes they even don’t move at all (but the tune is played ok). Igor, I hope you’re doing well (no news since june ? hope you’re fine man).. Can you do something about that ?? Thanks for all the work :)
